It seems the world is ingoring the Marxist Goons for ever! as though they never existed!

There is hope if we ensure that they remain that way! Never Existed and will Never Exist in our consciousness by making a rapid and effective move towards win-win strategic business enterprises!

Until its last emperor, Haile Selassie, was overthrown in 1974, Ethiopia's constitution boasted that he descended "without interruption from the dynasty of Menelik I, son of the Queen of Ethiopia, the Queen of Sheba, and King Solomon of Jerusalem."

This claim was based on an apocryphal interpretation of the visit described in 1 Kings 10, wherein the Hebrew king seduced the visiting Queen by parching her palate and trading sex for a pitcher of water.

Whatever the truth behind what Ethiopian scholar Kinfe Abraham termed a "curious alchemy of glory and myth," the links between Israel and Ethiopia are many. The African country was long home to an ancient Jewish community, Beta Israel (more commonly known as Falasha, Amharic for "exiles"), the majority of whose over 90,000 members immigrated to Israel in Operation Moses (1984) and Operation Solomon (1991).

The dominant Ethiopian Orthodox Church, granted its own Patriarch by the Coptic Church of Alexandria in 1959, still venerates as its most precious relic a shrouded box inside its oldest church complex, Our Lady Mary of Zion, located in the ancient capital of Axum. This box is said to contain the Ark of the Covenant (aron habrit), built at the foot of Mount Sinai and borne victoriously into the Promised Land.

Ethiopian churches are designed according to Jewish tradition, and Ethiopian Christians' dietary laws are similar to the rules of Kashrut. Ethiopia's connection with sacred history continued into the Christian period; one of the first foreign converts to the new faith was a eunuch, "a minister of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians" (Acts 8:27), who encountered the apostle Philip while on pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

Until recently, Ethiopians arguably received more from the Judeo-Christian legacy than they gave. With the recent defeat by Ethiopian forces of the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) in Somalia, however, part of this debt has been repaid. Some of the defeated forces had links to al-Qaeda: indeed, the ICU was sheltering three al-Qaeda leaders (Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, Saleh Ali Salih Nabhan, and Abu Taha al-Sudani) responsible for 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and the 2002 attacks on Israeli targets in Kenya.

There may be several lessons for Israel, and for the United States, in this near total rout of Islamist radicals. First: decisive unilateral pre-emption works. Confronted by an extremist enemy with a long history of terrorist acts against it, who had set up a haven for foreign militants—among fighters captured during the offensive were Arabs, Eritreans, Pakistanis, Sudanese, Yemenis, and holders of British, Canadian and Scandinavian passports—and faced with an international community unable and/or unwilling to deal effectively with the threat, the government of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi responded decisively with a preemptive strike, albeit one technically endorsed by Somalia's phantasmal transitional government.

The security of both the Horn of Africa and the world has been enhanced by this resolute action of self-defense—which the Wall Street Journal aptly described as an "act of regional hygiene."

Second: there is no substitute for "boots on the ground." Once they decided to go on the offensive, despite enjoying clear superiority—the Islamists had no aircraft—the Ethiopians did not rely exclusively or even predominantly on airpower.

Some 20,000 soldiers were deployed in combat operations with many more on reserve, despite the historical enmity between Somalis and Ethiopians. Unlike the Israeli operation in last year's war in Lebanon, or U.S. preferences in Iraq until recently, there was no talk of a politically correct "light footprint."

Third, when you fight, don't tie one hand behind your back. While there are no reliable estimates of civilian casualties during the campaign, no doubt the number was elevated. Officers with whom we have been in contact are unambiguous: while they sought to minimize collateral damage to people and infrastructure, they held that responsibility for such losses rested with terrorists who hid out among civilians.

Ethiopians who deployed Mi-24 Hind helicopter gun ships—and U.S. forces that subsequently launched air strikes against two "high value" targets using AC-130 gun ships—gave no quarter to fleeing militants whose vehicles became stuck in the quagmire of Somalia's flooded Juba Valley. Charred remains of dozens of vehicles still litter the landscape.

The Ethiopians did what they had to do to kill the enemy. Let it be noted that Ethiopia had the advantage that their operations took place in one of the most inhospitable places on the planet, one which Western media is not attracted to—especially during the holiday season.

Fourth, an enemy cannot be destroyed unless its avenues of escape are sealed. Between advancing Ethiopian troops sweeping everything in their path, Kenyans who had closed their borders with Somalia (notwithstanding protests by the International Committee of the Red Cross), and Americans blockading the coast with the guided missile cruisers U.S.S. Bunker Hill and U.S.S. Anzio, the dock landing ship U.S.S. Ashland, and the carrier U.S.S. Eisenhower and its battle group, ICU militants had no "humanitarian corridors" through which their foreign sponsors in the Middle East could rush men and materiel.

Fifth, strike while the iron is hot. Ethiopia prudently used the time that its partner, the U.S., bought for it. Although a United Nations Security Council Resolution (1725) creating a "peacekeeping" force for Somalia was unanimously passed in early December, the resolution was so clumsily crafted—perhaps purposely—that the promised contingent has yet to be constituted, much less deployed.

In the meantime, Ethiopian forces achieved all their strategic objectives. United Nations apathy did not stop Addis Ababa.

Israel is still coping with the aftermath of the war in Lebanon. On January 17, the Israel Defense Forces chief of staff, Lieutenant-General Dan Halutz, submitted his resignation.

A commission is now investigating the conduct of the conflict, and more recriminations and resignations are expected to follow. Now is, however, the time to look to the future, not the past.

With Hezbollah having re-armed in Lebanon and threatening a coup d'état in that state, and with its Iranian paymaster looking to distract the international community from its ongoing pursuit of nuclear weapons, it is only a matter of time before things heat up again on Israel's northern frontier, as we predicted on this website both before and after last summer's war.

Perhaps this time, Solomon might learn a thing or two from Sheba.

Dear Patriotic Ethiopians and Friends of Ethiopia:

Please find this interesting article by the Sleeper Cell Terrorist Network, (The Shabia Disinformation Machine) in the psuedo master reporter, the so called Sofica Tesfa Mariam. She might not evin exist, it may be just Yemane Kidane or Wodi Afeworki's bring, Dr Amare Tekle's handiwork.

Please replace Afeworki for Zenawi afterall, it is al Shabia's Master Mind to create havoc in the region in the outdated liberation front construct.

If you read carefully, you will get Shabia's reasoning and potential future strategies.....

At the heart of the question is who is the messanger, here. Not the Shabia embassies, but the series of cyber networks that have very telling nmes.

Ethiopia Media (read as Shabia Media); Addis Voice (Read as Demented Voice); Abugida read as (ABC of Cyber Terror!), Ethiopian Review (Read as Terror Review), the list goes on. All pretending to be Ethiopian outfits when they are controlled and fed by the Shabia terrorist network.

This is a very telling article, and all Patriotic Ethiopians and Friends of Ethiopia should google and find out who is this master counter-intelligence officer by the name of Sofia Tesfa Mariam? Again, Tesfa Mariam is an Ethiopian name intentionally coded here to sound and to disgrace Ethiopian characters and culture.

So read on, and look for what Shabia is upto in its Disinformation Campain!

We have a lot of work ahead of us! When we are told by the so called educated morons that addressing each other respectfully is encouraging serfdom. What they do not understand is undermining each other and being vehicles of outside interests is the most deamining and worst kind of slavery.

Respecting each other and referring to each other as the "beloved" Emebete, Getaye is not serfdom, it is an indearing way of talking to each other. But the fools who do not know either Ethiopian, western or Arabic or Asian culture, tell us respecting each other and giving credit for each other is slavery.

What they and I am afraid many of the likes of Tolossa and RomeGM do not get is that betraying our culture, our value and most importantly being agents of the enemy is the worst kind of ignorance and serfdom.

But, they do not get it. Thank God, they do not, because imagine what will happen if they get it!

With regards to the Patriotis and a prayer for the traitors that they will come to their senses, read their Master's Strategy of Disinformation.

Remember: Knowing how the enemy thinks and operates is the beginning of Victory against it.

Thank you Tolosa, Abugida, Ethiomedia, etc. Without your knowledge you are giving us vital information ahead of time.

Remember the so called Ethiopian Student Movement series of banda articles and journals, etc, Struggle, Combat, Democracia etc were all Shabia fabrications. The same ones they are fabricating now. Just compare and contrast how Shabia is geting sharper or more stupid. The problem, we have read too much of their non-sense!

Always distributing it to the youth and impressionable ones! As they cannot argue with equals! but shower insults and out right vagabond language when they are challenged.

The stupidity continues................

All the same, we know each other and it is important we alert the international community about these sleeper cell terrrorist and their activities

Cheers!

The dictator’s stooge in Mogadishu
By Sofia Tesfa Mariam

February 8, 2007

Meles Zenawi's war of aggression against the people of Somalia was not a surprise to folks like me who have been watching the developments in Somalia since June 2006 when the Union of Islamic Courts took over Mogadishu and restored peace in Somalia after 15 years of anarchy and chaos.

It was obvious that the US State Department was not happy with the developments in the Horn and turned once again to its trusted ally and mercenary Meles Zenawi to help return Somalia to its chaotic past. Using the Security Council as its bully pulpit, the US got its proxy war in Somalia.

That is another topic for another day; my interest today is Ali Mohammed Ghedi, the illusive Prime Minister of the Transitional National Government of Somalia. Very little is divulged about this man in the US led western media…I wonder why.

He got my attention when he openly vouched for the deceptive street smart Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia, and called for the invasion of Somalia. During a 5 December 2006 Press Conference in Addis Ababa, he justified Meles Zenawi's unprovoked war of aggression against Somalia by saying:"…Terrorism is a global issue. But, the so-called UIC with their allies in Mogadishu clearly targeted the country and people of Ethiopia .

Therefore, it is the duty of the government of Ethiopia to protect the interests of its people and country. That cannot be compromised. That is our decision…"What about the interests of the long-suffering people of Somalia? I wondered how a leader of country, whose people have experienced untold suffering for 15 years, could openly call for war against them, and prolong their suffering. I was also surprised at his reluctance to create a more conducive environment for Somali reconciliation and dialogue.

When the entire world knows that it is Meles Zenawi's armed forces that were in Somalia, Ali Mohammad Ghedi harped about unnamed "foreign fighters" and "Eritrean forces" in order to cover up for his masters at Menelik Palace and divert attention from Meles Zenawi's criminal acts in Somalia. He refers to the Somalis who are fighting to defend Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as "Islamic terrorists". Today, he is applauding the US backed Meles Zenawi invasion of Somalia, which has cost the lives of thousands of innocent Somalis, caused untold destruction to vital Somali infrastructure including its airports. Who is Ali Mohammad Ghedi and whose interests and agendas is he promoting?

If you rely on the spin being repeated over and over again in the US led western media, you will not get much. It is as if they are bending over backwards to create a clean slate for the man. Whilst so many genuine African leaders who have stood beside their people have been unnecessarily maligned and vilified by the Western media and their coteries, Ghedi, who has betrayed the people of Somalia over and over again, is getting a makeover.

Here is the often repeated phrase about Ghedi:"…He has not been involved with the factional fighting of the past 13 years…a qualified vet, Mr Ghedi is relatively unknown in political circles, and was only sworn in as a member of Somalia's parliament-in-exile hours before his appointment, after a Mogadishu warlord gave up his seat for him…"I suppose that means he is being cleared of any wrongdoing, or responsibility for the anarchy and chaos that has plagued Somalia for the last 13 years.

How does a "relatively unknown in political circles" get a seat in Somalia's parliament? Who is the Mogadishu warlord that "gave up his seat" for Ghedi? Why did he do that? Obviously, no one is telling, for good reasons. Here is an excerpt from a 5 November 2004 IOL article under the title "So who is Ali Mohamed Gedi":"…Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed plucked the former lecturer in livestock at the University of Mogadishu from the African Union and assigned him the responsibility of forming the first recognised government in 14 years…Friends describe Gedi as a soft-spoken leader with a humble personality and one without political skeletons in his cupboard, a characteristic of several armed leaders, including Abdullahi Yusuf…

All the warlords, except Mohamed Omar Habeb, who controls the Middle Shabelle and Mogadishu faction leader Bashir Raghe, have yet to throw their weight behind the new premier…"Neither the Transitional National Government of Somalia, nor Ghedi enjoys popular support in Somalia. As for Mohamed Omar Habeb, he is after all Ghedi's relative with a vested interest in the TNG, as we will see later when we unravel Ghedi's true identity and provide a more complete dossier on the man behind Meles Zenawi's unprovoked war of aggression against the people of Somalia. As for Abdullahi Yusuf, his reign will soon be over, if Ghedi and Meles have their way.

Background

Ali Mohammad Ghedi was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in1951. He is from the Abgal subclan Harti Abgal and sub-sub clan Warsaageli. After his mother's divorce, his step mother Hawa R. from Ayr-haber-Gedir clan raised the young Ghedi.

His father was a Colonel in the Somali National Security Service (NSS). Ghedi was recruited by the NSS while he was in secondary school and worked for them throughout his college days. He also completed military service training in the 70s.Ghedi was given the task of spying on his fellow secondary and university students.

During the Barre regime hundreds of students were arrested and tortured "on the basis of reports given by Ghedi".After completing secondary school at Jamal Abdul Masic Allah in Mogadishu in 1974, he went to veterinary school at the University of Mogadishu and graduated in1978. From 1979-1981 he was in Italy at the University of Pisa on a two-year scholarship. He returned to the University of Mogadishu's Veterinary School and served as assistant lecturer in 1982. He was soon appointed as its Head, and held that post until the collapse of Siad Barre's regime in 1991.

The fall of Siad Barre's regime brought the era of the warlords. Ali Mahdi Mohammed is one of the two main warlords to have emerged after the fall of Siad Barre;Mohammed Farah Aideed was the other. Ghedi worked with Ali Mahdi as head of the logistical section. The power struggle between Aideed and Mahdi in 1991-1992 was one of the deadly turning points in Somalia's history.During that time Ghedi was working as Assistant Defense Secretary with Ali Mahdi. That civil war costthe lives of 50,000 Somalis of which Ghedi is accountable.
Link with Meles Zenawi

In the mid 80s, Professor Ghedi's father was assigned to assist Meles Zenawi, the then head of the TigrayPeople's Liberation Front (TPLF), to provide forMeles' basic needs. Eventually he was appointed as the coordinator between the Somali government and TPLF.The assistance given to Meles Zenawi was facilitated by Ghedi's father. It was during this time that Ghedi's relationship with Meles Zenawi flourished.

Trail of Betrayal

After the failure of UNOSOM operations in March 1995,Ghedi's father made a courtesy call to his former friend Meles Zenawi. Colonel Mohammed, Ghedi's father requested political support and assistance to elevate his son, to play more prominent and key roles in Somali politics. It was after Colonel Mohammed's visit to Addis Abeba that Ghedi began to distance himself from Ali Mahdi and his organization and began to openly challenge him.

This began Ghedi's trail of betrayals of the Somali people in general, but also of the people that assisted him in his rise as a prominent figure in Somali politics. When civil war broke out in Somalia, Ghedi remained in exile, mostly in Ethiopia and Kenya. He served as consultant in various regional livestock bodies inEast Africa. From 2003-2004 Ghedi worked for the RedSea Livestock Trade Commission (LTC).

The RSLTC is aUSAID funded autonomous body operating under theAfrican Union's Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR), making Ghedi a USAID employee. A luxury hotel in Nairobi, Kenya served both as his office and residence. According to news reports: "…From Nairobi he also oversaw an internationally funded animal disease control programme for Somalia…"
The truth is that he used his profession and his position to undermine the thriving Somali livestock export market in order to help his godfather and mentor Meles Zenawi.

In 1996 a USAID funded livestock export project which was given to Ethiopia, instead ofSomalia based upon Ghedi's recommendations. None of the media reported that Ghedi was singularly responsible for the ban on export of Somali livestock. When Ghedi was working with the Italian NGO Terra Nuova, he issued a certificate saying that Somali livestock was infected with Rift Valley fever, resulting in the ban on Somali's livestock by the Gulf States, costing Somalia millions in export revenues.

This erroneous claim was repeatedly denied by international organizations and Somali herdsman. This opened up a short lived opportunity for Ethiopian livestock to monopolize the livestock market in theGulf States and other Arab countries.
After 14 trials to form a Transitional Government for Somalia failed due to Ethiopia's interference, the current Transitional National Government was formed in2004 in Kenya with Abdulahi Yusuf as its head.Following Meles Zenawi's orders, Yusuf chose Ghedi as the Prime Minister. He faced problems because Ghedi was not a member of the Transitional Federal Parliament (TFP) and a request for a Constitutional amendment to allow non-members to serve in the Somalia government was rejected.

Mohamed Omar Habeb "Muhammad Dheere" the Jowhar based faction leader is Ghedi's relative and a Meles loyalist. He was an elected member of the TFP but stepped down in favor of Ghedi, allowing Yusuf to name him Prime Minister.
In the mid 90s, Ghedi's relationship with the minority Tigrayan regime in Ethiopia tightened and he was subsequently recruited as the regime's spy. He was paid a monthly salary for his contributions of confidential intelligence to Meles' regime. Ghedi continues to put the interests of the minority regime in Ethiopia ahead of that of the Somali people and has worked aggressively to scuttle any peace talks ,calling instead for the invasion of Somalia by his godfather's forces.

The US led international community has emboldened Meles Zenawi, the mercenary leader of the Tigrayan minority regime in Ethiopia, to defy international law, invade sovereign territories of neighboring countries, trample and violate the human rights of the Ethiopian people. They have once again proved that when it comes to Africa, African lives are dispensable, and the end justifies the means. The real question is to what end…

Therefore, the reports about Ghedi being a political novice, having no skeletons in his closet etc. etc. are not only erroneous and self serving, but they are also a futile attempt by his handlers to clean up his corrupt and traitorous history against the people of Somalia. His acts of treason will continue to be exposed and history and the Somali people will judge him harshly…there is no where to hide. He will have to answer to the Somali people sooner or later.

Finally, Meles Zenawi and Jendayi Frazier can use force and install Ghedi's puppet regime in Mogadishu, but they cannot force the people of Somalia to accept him as their leader. The US led international community may have shattered the hopes and aspirations of the Somali people temporarily, but no amount of fire power can kill the spirit of a people fighting for justice forever. The rule of law will prevail over the law of the jungle

  1. Dear Patriotic Ethioians and friends of Ethiopia:

I find it very interesting when Friends of Ethiopia fight over the future of Ethiopia!

Ut least they are civil to each other and wonder when will the Patriots see this as a good example and teach the neo-Revolutionaries to behave once in their lives!

I know the day will not come when I will write " my dearest Wondimu Mekonnen" to my nemesis on the cyber world, knowing very well he thinks I am his enemy although he never knows me from Mengedgna but has already labled me all sorts of criminal activities and has held his cangaroo cyber kaliti court already,in his nano brain to be his enemy. I tried to be nice to see if the carrot works. If it doesn't , I will have to revert to the same old stick until it happens on this cyber world of ours.

I know it will not happen on this good earth, but may be in the Cyber world but felt compelled to share with you the perspectives of two friends of Ethiopia on the current affairs of our people.

    Please read on:

Sit back and relax, this one's gonna be long!)

Ahh…Jeffrey Sachs—the American economist-turned-humanitarian we just “love to hate” in these parts.

As the UN Special Advisor on the Millenium Development Goals, he has actively lobbied in favor of increased aid funds for Africa—and Ethiopia, in particular. He has continually applauded the ‘development efforts’ of Meles Zenawi in addition to repeatedly expressing respect for his intellect, personal charisma and “vision”. Sachs was on hand to personally award him the “first ever African Green Revolution Award” (only a couple of months after the June 2005 civilian massacre)—and since by now we are all more than aware of the ‘dubious conditions’ under which that prize was awarded, we can only assume that rumors of a personal friendship between the two must at least be somewhat founded.

The much celebrated UN-supported Millenium Village Project (a continent-wide social experiment…excuse me… 'sustainable development project, endvoring to eradicate extreme poverty at the village level within a 5 year timeframe' ) is also the brainchild of this man, and Ethiopia was selected by him as the second “host country” to participate—thus blessing us with the village of Koraro (in Tigray) and promised future “subsequent national scale-up’.

(I hope you can forgive the sarcasm of a sceptic for a few more moments, but this guy really gets me going!)You know, I have no beef with the MVP itself—I think it is a beautiful concept which, no doubt, has greatly benefited the people of the targeted communities. My problem lies in the fact that he has very publicly declared on numerous occasions that a “vital pre-requisite for project participation” is good governance. (GOOD GOVERNANCE!!!!!!! I don’t know what his deal is, but it really does not take a Harvard-trained economist to figure out that “good governance” is the one thing this country is most certainly lacking these days…!)

Under normal circumstances, the political assessment of a foreign economist is generally (arguably) irrelevant. However, our man Jeffrey Sachs is of a different, and dangerous breed. His public humanitarian pledge to “end extreme poverty by 2015” (proclaimed in his bestseller, The End of Poverty) has won him the favor (and ears…and pocketbooks) of charitable Western citizens who wouldn’t otherwise give a rat’s tail about African economic policy. He is already highly-esteemed in his field due to his shining credentials and international experience, and now thanks to the global race for ‘MDG alignment’, he also holds incredible sway in the international donor community as a powerful lobbyist for increased “official development funds”.

This leaves a pretty diverse and powerful arena now uniquely occupied by this single man and (in my opinion) it naturally follows that with such influence comes a certain amount of responsibility. For that reason, his continued endorsement of the Ethiopian government is becoming particularly detrimental in light of the recent escalation of political oppression and wide-scale government abuses here. It seems that no matter what Meles does, the aid continues to flow—and unfortunately most often straight into the pockets of EPRDF cadres. I truly believe that Jeffrey Sachs has personally done lasting damage to this country through his undue public affection for Meles Zenawi and continues to play a very large (but often overlooked) role in fostering exactly the kind of dangerously inaccurate perception of this dictator within the international community that allows him to continue his ‘reign of terror’ unopposed!

I thought that, perhaps, Jeffrey Sachs had been understandly duped by the eloquent false ernest of Meles, or possibly didn’t fully realize the far-reaching and devastating effects of his (internationally) perceived partnership with the Ethiopian federal government. Call me naïve, but I thought I would give it a shot:

I have consequently been having an ongoing discussion (via email)with him for a couple of weeks now and thought it might be worth sharing. I apologize for the length of this post, but hope it proves interesting for some: (*my name and identifying details have obviously been omitted. Enjoy!)

    To: Jeffrey Sachs
Subject: from a concerned ____________ working in Ethiopia

    Dear Professor Sachs:

I am a _______________*, currently working in Addis Ababa . Prior to my arrival, I read as much of your published work as I could get my hands on, truly inspired by your most recent humanitarian interests and model for village-level sustainable development. Now that I have been in Ethiopia for some time, however, I find myself confused and utterly disillusioned by many of your claims; to be frank, it has become unmistakeably clear that even to reach the cherished ‘bottom rung of the development ladder’ in this country, true democracy must first come to Ethiopia.

In your book you clearly state that a pre-requisite for participation in the Millenium Village Project is “good governance”—I must admit, I cannot fathom the criteria used when selecting Ethiopia as a host country! The governance profile report issued by the Economic Commission for Africa at that time (2004) expressed serious concerns regarding levels of political opression and wide-spread human rights violations, and according to more recent global governance indicators, the EPRDF ranks in the bottom 10th percentile--among the most corrupt in the world. Despite repeated condemnation from international human rights watchdog organizations, hundreds of political prisoners currently languish in prison without trial, and life in Addis, (due to escalating police brutality and mounting civil unrest) is becoming increasingly unbearable, even for a foreigner.

I have heard you repeatedly and publicly praise Prime Minister Meles on several occasions and have watched you lobby tirelessly for increased health funding for this country; however, I have been unable to find even so much as a single critical public statement issued in regards to the most recent findings of the independent commission assigned to investigate the mass civilian murders in June and November 2005. I find it impossible to believe that someone of your stature, experience and humanitarian concern could possibly support such violent government action, regardless of any personal affinity or relationship you may have with this national leader. Therefore, I wish to ask you now: Do you still support this man who has been found guilty (by a self-appointed panel, no less!) of the murders of over 193 peaceful civilians—men, women and children?

If this is not the case (as I suspect) I would like to ask why your condemmnation of such extreme brutality and the escalating political oppression in this country has not been forthcoming?

Many economists today may enjoy the luxury of walking away from a failed model, simply citing ‘human error’ and calling it a day. But you, sir, have achieved a kind of celebrity status that has made you a household name (both here in Ethiopia and in the West)—due primarily, I believe, to your public commitment to alleviating the sufferings of others as outlined in your book. Because you now occupy a unique forum which includes the United Nations, international donor community, politicans and citizens alike—it is absolutely vital that you also publicly identify and denounce this negative government practice, since millions of lives continue to be severely affecetd by the ongoing abuses inflicted by this current dictatorship (which has been significantly strengthened by ‘aid dollars’ embezzled to line the pockets of EPRDF members).

In your book, you refer to the Ethiopian political climate as “better governance than might have been expected” (presumably in the face of extreme poverty and economic decline) and even go so far as to qualify it as a “good government…struggling mightily against the odds”. I cannot conceive why your expectations for the leader of this continent’s third most populous nation were ever so inexplicably low to begin with--low enough that even the massacre of hundreds of innocent civilians can apparently be easily overlooked ‘between friends’?

You also stated clearly that “to understand and overcome such crises, it would be necessary to unravel the interconnections”; I challenge you to begin to do so in this country, sir, beyond the carefully conrolled environment of your ‘clinical economic’ experiment in the region of Tigray—I am confident that you will find unacceptable levels of government corruption beneath every stone and the shocking violation of human life and liberty around every corner.

As an academic and world-renowned economist, it is your responsibility to defend the systems which you devise—which, in this case, involves identifying and addressing the wide-spread political corruption that will eventually arrest plans for the project scale-up so enthusiastically envisioned. And as one who has pledged publicly to support those condemned by extreme poverty, it has become your self-appointed duty to serve as their voice—and denounce the widespread government abuses that foster such unbearable conditions wherever you encounter them, (even when they are committed by your ‘partners in African development’!)

I in no way intend to suggest that you are somehow responsible for the current national crisis or for the horrific crimes committed by the Ethiopian government; however, it remains a fact that your endorsement has done much to generate international support for the government of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, and the donor funds that have flooded across the borders as a result in recent years have most certainly served to empower an otherwise waning regime.

There is certainly no shame in realizing that you have been deceived by a cunning, eloquent and systematic dictator who claimed to share your passion for sustainable development and economic reform (perhaps he too even legitimately shared this enthusiasm for a time?).

The shame lies rather in remaining silent once this deception has been revealed and such violations clearly exposed. With all due respect, because you are now in a position to greatly influence the world-opinion of this tyrant, you have long ago forfeited the luxury of silently observing this country disintegrate into ruin; should you choose to say nothing, your name will be forever associated with the atrocities committed under the rule of Meles Zenawi and the blood of thousands of Ethiopian people will forever stain your conscience.

    Sincerely,
    MENGEDEGNA*

    Sincerely,
    MENGEDEGNA*

  3. Dear Patriotic Ethiopians and Friends of Ethiopia

    Millennium Series Two

Re: Appreciating alternative ideas and means of communication in the New Mellennium

This is yet another set of my communication with friends as to how to begin anew and charter a better future towards the 8th Millennium.

It has been now over twenty three years since Ethiopia moved away from the traditional system of over 7,000 years of Imperial Divine Governance as ruled by Fitha Negest, Kibre-Negest and most recently by a series of western modelled Imperial, Socialist and now Revolutionary Constitutions.

Even though there is a dirth of paper to coroborate the above transformatons, in reality Ethiopia is still ruled by the age old Traditional Social Governance that excels all the above constitutions and structure of governance. In short, the Ethiopian governance is still in transtion. Our social & cultural traditions and governance still rules the day.

The movement from Imperial Divine Governance to Revolutionary Socialist and at times Marxist Governance did not really take place as the protagonists spent too much time killing humans and destroying existing institutions and the ecology rather than building new ones to match or even excel the old ones.

Appreciating alternative ideas has always been Ethiopian culture and civilization. The folk lore, music, poetry and literature incuding "Semna Worq; Medina Zelesegna, etc" and modern dramas and Quine or rap, continue to be the alternative outlets of ideas and constructs.

The modern mushrooming of different ditial communication networks, especially the internet has given unprecedented opportunity for communication, inluding alternative media and think tank groups.

The Ethiopian community has not been second to any as they crowd the cyber space with yahoo.groups, blogspot and more recently the podcasts and websites are proving to be excellent means of communication.

More recently, the digital communication network has been utilized for political campaigns and discussions groups that is being actively utilized mainly among Diapora communities. As there are competing ideas of governance, the intolerance of certain groups to declare only one perspective, that too that has been tried and has failed has forced many to come out withy alternative ideas. Free Market liberating Democracies are still pie in the sky. The current series of Developmental States, new versions of the the same old socialist democracies and totalitarian systems are still evolving with new names and groups.

The habit of the protagonists are still the same, totalitarian and I know it all regid constructs. Unfortunately modern technology cannot allow do not challenge me rigid instituitins to flourish. The question is how do we adopt to the new challenges. Learn continously and modify behavior and apprach by seeking "win-win synergestic partnerships and enterprises, that seek compromise and synergy.

Unfortunately from time to time calls has been aired to make the common communication platforms only for party and specific purpose dialogue, making the specific group poorer interms of accessing alternative ideas, espcailly if those ideas are the only option for the current situtation and will not enhance quality and improve participation and progression with the option of acquiring the best alternatives.

Some misguided Ethipian foreign educated students (the old fanos) for a long time have been advocating changing Ethiopian society and social order by force calling it .."Challenge, Combat and Revolutionary Democracy, etc. " The result has been only death and destruction, taking society to over 1,000 years behind the expected modern civilization of the 21st centuries.

Some patriotic Ethiopians have been providing alternative media and communication channel to provide new direction to the ethos of discussion and communication, as we contemplate to celebrate the 8th Millnnium. They have been using radios as witnessed on their regular 3 hours show on Sundays that can be archived at www.hagerfikerradio.com, and web sites at www.SolomonicCrown.org. Although, some Patriotic Ethiopians and friends of ethiopians have taken on the suggestions and alternative views. The majority so called vocal left leaning Diaspora are still singing the old 1960 songs of "Fano Tesemara" Revolutionaries to the bush instead of the academic and technology institutes. Now, most of these early fanos are reaching their 60s and 70s, no families and no properties or any sort of social institutions to show for their fano-days.

Amazingly, they are still preeching the old" we know it all, not only for themselves but the for the rest of the community. This we know it all construct has not been beneficial except the loss of citizenship, loss of identity, loss of productive and gainful employment in the chosen field.

Now, as Ethiopians and Africans are beginning to review the past 8 Millnnnia and look forward to the new ones in September 2007, new ideas and new approaches are mushrooming from all over the globe.

Most importantly, the young, bright highly eucated youth are asking to show their perspective and their vision. It is critical to allow young leadership to evolve and the old ones to write their biographies for whatever it is worth and not crowd all the avenues of communication.

Surely, they should appreciate how the rest of the world left them behind and are marching now beyond the moon, to other planets and other stars, galaxies and looking for even another universe.

As global warming or as some of us call it global cooling is taking over the world, we cannot plough with the old oxen, and should try modern technology and modern approaches.

That begins with appreciating alternative ideas. So, let there be freedom of communication and let us seek alternative ideas and approaches to life.
